Science Fridays

Mattie and Josh kicked off Science Fridays! They each did their own experiment and did great showing the class their learning!

Bear Day

Last Friday was Bear Day! It was so funny because when kids were asked why they had their bears they said. "It's Bear Day!" When asked why they replied, "We don't know, Miss Workman just said it was!" We had actually been studying the letter Bb last week and so I told the kids they could bring their bears on Friday!

We learned about different kinds of bears in science. Students did a fun activity with brown bears, black pears, polar bears, panda bears and sun bears!

We ended the week with making polar bear feet....close to their actual size and we measured the school hallway! The hallway in front of the office was 123 polar bear feet long! Bear Week was a lot of fun!

Craft Stick Patterns

In math we have been working on patterns. Students were given craft sticks to create their own patterns and boy did we have a good time! Great work Christian!

The Polar Express

We started the Polar Express party with a coloring sheet. Students got their jammies and on and listened the book being read to them on a cd.

At the end of the story we found 19 golden tickets! Students were very excited to ride The Polar Express and use their imagination!

We watched the movie and loved the parts in the train. Students had their hands in the air, like they were riding a roller coaster!

We took a break and had some yummy cookies and chocolate milk! They also got a special treat.....a candy cane!

At the end students each got a bell and as they shook the bell, they could hear its ringing sound! We BELIEVE!

Family Celebration

We had a wonderful Family Celebration last week! 70 people came to our potluck dinner and Thanksgiving play! It was a wonderful time to meet all of our friends and their families. The kids did great with their performance as they showed off their skills and some of the songs we sing in class! Happy Thanksgiving!

White Days and Colors

We have finished our color day activities and students were able to take their caterpillars home. They get very long with all those colors and they have so many legs!

Grandparents Day was a success day with over 30 grandparents there! We sang songs, shared poems and showed all that we are learning in Kindergarten!

Apple Day

We had a lot of fun on apple day with many different activities! We started with tasting a red, yellow and green apple slice. Students then painted their apple according to which was their favorite. The red ones won.....they were honeycrisp apples which I think are the best too!

We had lots of apple snacks; apple bread, apple muffins, apple pie, apple cookies, apple suckers, apple cider and apple juice! So much yummy food! The kids loved it too!

Students made Johnny Appleseed hats that really look like pots! They walked around all day saying, "I am Johnny Appleseed!"

Finally, we made apple men with bouncy arms and legs! Apple day was lots of fun!

Third Grade Friends

Funny Feet

I am a little behind on posting! Sorry about that! It is weird to think that we just started the 6th week of school! Time is flying by. Two weeks ago we celebrated Ff week with bringing funny feet with us to school! Maranda had very funny toes with different nail polish on each toe!

Christian had different shoes on.

Olivia and Samantha had on funny socks!

Anthony's different shoes were stylin!

Kira had some very funny socks on her feet!

Those are some big feet for a Kindergartner.....oh wait! They are Miss Workman's funny feet!

Mattie and Anastasia had funny feet with their socks and shoes!

Sam may have been the winner though with his Care Bear socks and green croc shoes!

Blue Day

We didn't have a lot of blue on blue day but that's alright! We didn't have school the 2 days before and so it was a bit hard to remember over a 4 day weekend! We still had fun learning the blue song and learning how to spell this color!

Yellow Day, Remembering 9/11, and Sill Sunglass Day!

I always love to see what kids wear on the color days. Isabelle's shirt was so cute!

Christian got bumped REAL good on the day before pictures! He was so brave and handled it so well!

In remembering September 11th, we talked a little about what happen ten years ago. We also talked about how proud we were of our country and of our police and firemen.

Students did a wonderful job drawing buildings and cars and then coloring and pasting flags, police men and firemen to tbe mural.

We finished the week celebrating letter Ss with Silly Sunglass Day!

I can't wait to see what students wear on their feet Friday to celebrate letter Ff!

Our First Full Week

It has been a great first full week of school! We are learning how to go to different centers and how to work together with our classmates!

These three girlies made a very cool tower with blocks!

A New Year, A New Crew!

Here is our silly class! We are going to have so much fun this year at school! I have really enjoyed getting to know all of these kids and am excited for a great year!

21 students! We are making lots of new friends and love getting to know what school is like.

Here are a few of our favorite things in the classroom:

Vilma loves the word wall. The cool thing is they are magnetic so we can touch them and take them off the board!

Maddie and Christian love the popcorn words and can't wait to read them all to Miss Workman and get their free bag of popcorn and pop!

This group of kids is excited to use the computers! Everyday I am asked at least once, "when can we get on the computers?"

Miranda loves all the books! Miss Workman sure has a lot and can't wait to share her favorites with the new class!

These three boys love the coconut tree with the environmental print on it. They love to read all the words on the trunk!

Colston loves the calendar and can't wait to be the Student of the Day!

This group of girlies love the SMART board! We have become very familiar with how to use it this first week and have enjoyed the games and activities!

The Kindergarten Class!

What a beautiful day for a field trip! We did a scavenger hunt and found lots of neat things outside!

The bugs were very slimy and gross and we loved them!

We loved looking at the turkeys! It was so fun to see them get close to us as we were watching them!

We had to put on special boots to wear into the turkey barn. We did not want to spread disease. It was a gorgeous day at the OARDC and we had a wonderful time! Thank you PTO for paying for us to go!

Pet Day

A few weeks ago we had pet day! It was a great time for us to meet some of the pets in kids families. They tell so many stories about their pets and so it was nice to actually meet the pet! Jonah brought his cat!

Field Trip to the Library's Winter Wonderland

We had a wonderful time traveling to the Wayne County Public Library and enjoy their presentation of A Winter Wonderland. In this picture we are playing with musical instruments.

Students are sitting nicely and listening as the librarian reads us a story.

We enjoyed a puppet show of The Hat. Students laughed and laughed as they watched the puppets.

We had a wonderful Polar Express Day! Students wore their pajamas and took their tickets as they boarded the train. They did such a wonderful job watching the movie and pretending to actually be on the train! Students each got their own bell to remember to believe!

Gingerbread Week

We had a very busy week doing many different gingerbread man activities. During reading time we read 3 different Gingerbread Man books and compared the books. We made a Venn Diagram to compare 2 of the books. Students made their own gingerbread houses using a paper bag!

We ended the week with a hunt! The gingerbread man jumped out of the book and was running around the school so we had to catch him! He left us a special treat in our classroom! Cookies!

What a fun filled week! Students are doing a wonderful job at understanding how to use a Venn Diagram!

A Snowy Day

We had so much fun running around and catching snowflakes.

Family Celebration

Apple Day

What is their favorite?

We read this very good book on Johnny Appleseed and made hats to look like what he wore!

Here is the information we collected on students favorite kind of apples.

We tried many different apple food items. We had apple cider, apple juice, apple pie, apple muffins, apple butter, and apple breakfast bars. Yummy!

McKenzie found the green worm!

We played a game where we had to look for the missing worm behind the apples with numbers. Students had to guess the number.

We tasted a piece of a red, green and yellow apple and decided which was our favorite. Students painted an apple the color that was their favorite and then we looked to see the overall favorite for the class.

Ashley was measured!

We did measuring with our apples!

Students did a great job on apple day! I heard lots of "This is so much fun!" " I love apple day!"

First Three Days

We are off to a great start in Kindergarten!

What a fun filled afternoon! They were so cute and seemed to really enjoy their time making it a special event. We also spent time writing words that started with qu. It was lots of fun!

We shared with parents some of what we have been learning during our reading workshop time. Then we sang a few songs for our parents. After our program we had a pizza picnic with parents! It was a great day!

Our literacy luncheon was so much fun! We invited parents to come and visit our classroom and learn a little bit more about what we do all day as well as celebrate our accomplishments this year! Students were split into groups and each student took time to read their All About Me books that they had written during writing time.

KWL Charts

We have been doing a unit on nonfiction. These kids are amazing! A KWL chart was modeled for students and we talked about how and why we use charts like these during research. Students were then put into groups to make their own KWL chart. We had students researching frogs, bears, octopus, raccoons and gorillas. They did amazing and are learning so much about their animals! I am very proud of this group of kids and how well they work together!

We have been working very hard on reading independently for 20 minutes and have talked about what having good stamina looks like when we read. Well, Miss Workman's class did it and students are reading on their own for 20 minutes! They won a special treat...reading phones that they can read into to hear themselves! Way to go!

Easter Fun

St. Patrick's Day!

On St. Patrick's Day we read a book about a leprechaun who ruined a classroom party. This same leprechaun left our classroom a note that he had escaped the book and was now at Parkview! We went on a hunt to find him!

We used a green magnifying glass to search for him throughout our school.

Unfortunately we did not find him on our hunt so we decided it might be good to set up traps around our classroom and try to catch him!

Teams of students worked together to make traps that would catch that sneaky leprechaun.

Well, we did not catch that leprechaun but he did leave us some great treats!

Science Fridays

We have been taking turns on Fridays and doing science experiments with the class. Each Monday I send home the science bags with two different students. They get to choose a science project to do in front of the class. We have some great scientists in Kindergarten!

Rachel did a very neat project with food coloring and flowers.

Lee made some great binoculars and told us how we could use them to see things that are far away.

Lauren did a super job with her science project and showed us how cornstarch and water can be a solid and liquid!

We had to take advantage of this amazing weather at the beginning of March. We went outside and even though it was too muddy in the grass, we got to sit on the sidewalk and enjoy some time reading our books. There were even complaints of being hot and having too much sun in their eyes! Hey....this teacher will take that over cold and dreary any day!

The Right to Read Week theme at our school this year was Wild Wild West. The whole week was full of cowboy activities and lots of reading! Our door was very close to getting second place. It is very cute with their faces on different cowboy bodies and they are rounding up their favorite book!

Each student got their picture taken in a fun cowboy model! Mrs. Amstutz made each of us a mustache too!

Livy and Rachel were the cutest cowgirls on the block!

We had a great time celebrating the winter Olympics. It was also a fun way to learn how to measure. Students participated in several different events and the winner received a golden certificate. In this picture Cheyenne is demonstrating the Cotton Ball Throw!

We did a lot to celebrate President's Day and learn about our leaders George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. They were so cute and wanted to know more about each of the presidents! We finished our study by making fun hats!

We joined the other K class and watched One Hundred and One Dalmations.

We made a fun 100's day snack with 100 snack items.

Bear Print Measuring

We made actual polar bear foot prints and used them to measure the length of our classroom and the length of our school hallway. The students estimated how many foot prints long both the classroom and hallway were and then we actually measured. It was great fun and such a great learning opportunity for students.

Ashton and Livy did a great job presenting to us information on bears. They did their research by looking through lots of different books on bears. Ashton even found a great website for us to watch a real bear hibernate. We loved watching the bear all day! Great job Livy and Ashton!

Friday was Bear Day. We have been working all week on the letter Bb and so we ended the week with a special day of bringing in our bears. It was really fun to get to know everyone's bear. Corinne and Blade had very cute bears!

We talked this week about a BIG word for Kindergarten. Students learned what the word stamina means. We made a chart of what we can do as readers to have good stamina. Each day we are tracking how many minutes of good stamina we have as a class. Our goal is 20 minutes! We will keep you posted!

Writer's Cafe

Students have been working on learning how to write a letter. We ended the unit with writing letters to Santa. Students did a great job on writing their letters. We were so surprised to have Santa come! It was a special treat to read our letters to him!

Gingerbread Day!

Miss Workman read to us The Gingerbread Man but at the end of the story he escaped the book and left us messages all around the school. We went on a hunt to find him!

He left us a box of gingerbread cookies to decoraate and eat! Mmmm!!!

Polar Express

The students each got a bracelet of bells! They believe!

We took a break and drank our hot chocolate and ate cookies!

All the kindergarteners were very excited to ride the Polar Express!

We had a very special conductor who punched out our tickets!

It was PJ Day and it worked out great for students to ride the Polar Express! Miss Workman read the book first thing in the morning and passed out the tickets. Students had to keep track of them all day!

Christmas Program

We went back to our room after the performance and took a group picture! They loved their Santa hats! Merry Christmas!

They had to wait for others to perform and they all sat so nicely and watched the other performers!
